In beginning dressage, it’s really just about moving forward in good working gaits.
The horse should willingly stretch down and reach for the bit and be free in his gaits- relaxed with an even steady rhythm. He should learn to balance on large circles and turns and move willingly off the rider’s aids.
When horses are first taught, they should have basic dressage training. Find a dressage trainer in your area that knows how to train young horses instead of doing it yourself when you don’t know how.

Dressage starts with being forward from behind and on your aids. Any horse can do basic dressage if the rider knows how.
I recommend finding a dressage trainer to work with in your area.
