Why would ANYONE want to make a TWH trot???

yes tennessee walkers nod their heads.

It is part of their gait.

The more head nod, the better.

there is a divison of the twhbea that is for veratility…That includes twh drassage where instead of the trot, they gait. And walkers can canter like other breeds

The horse seems terribly pacey to me. Those circles and teaching the horse to bend will help.

    yes, it’s their natural gait.

Their heads bob up and down.

why does his head bounce sometimes? cuz of his breed?

To get your twh to trot and canter like a normal horse… Take it over trot poles and canter over poles set in bounces and do tiny cross bars.. We have a twh at our barn and now he is doing beginner novice eventing and 2nd level dressage…You just have to work at it

Do you own TWH’s? Their run/flat walks and canter are ALL hindquarter based, not fore. They push themselves forward when done properly. ALL horses can trot.

It is much easier then any of the flat walk based gaits.

It is a matter of wiring in the brain, not physical capability. Most gaited horses are so wired to gait that trotting seems foreign but that doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t. My boy has incredible reach when he choses to trot, he just hasn’t chosen to under saddle yet.

Your horse is too pacey. You would not be able to compete if that is your goal. A twh can trot if you engage his hindquarters and drop his head, they gait off their front ends with their head up.

There is a video of TWH doing Hunters on youtube that is trotting, it’s the only one here I’ve seen. Good Luck with the right training I am sure you can do it!

    This horse is pacey.

Do you mean Jennie Jackson? She just won the Horse Idol in TN a few weeks ago.. With an awesome Dressage on her STallion Champagne Watchout. And the other one.. Wind something or nother… sorry for get the name of it.

more TWH owners are using dressage to help their horses become more round in frame and truly work off their great rear end. Unless we teach them to trot we cannot compete at USEF events, but the NWHA shows have added TWH dressage tests for the TWH- up to third level- change the word trot to flatwalk and you have a TWH test.

is there “special” dressage for gaited horses or can they do the real stuff?

GREAT video!! Got to love the TWH..Hope to see one of Gennie someday..Hehe
    Keep up the great work!

Good point. She does switch into a pace there.

is he suppost to be pacing?

I agree with your traiing easy response etc but it is also important to have your horse walk. I hope you are not offended. Have a look at Canadian Perfection.

great video! I am looking into getting into gaited dressage with my TWH gelding, are there any good resources you know of? Of the few horses that are in my area, most are “cowpolk” that ONLY associate with QHs…

So hard to find any info here.

thank you- she’s had an injury so it’s been especially beneficial to her. Plus I’m really enjoying it.

Wow, your my hero–this is the way TWHs should be trained!
